A serious beginning

Already for ten years varmint-tournaments are being performed in Russia, but the VII team varmint-tournament for the Cup of Moscow hunting club “Safari”, on the 9-11 July in Rostov region, will take a special place in the chronicle of this competition: due to the participation of the Ukrainian team the tournament has become International. The Ukrainian team from the “Association for benchresting, varminting and sniping” with Dmitry Grimalyuk, Maxim Semenovyh, Wyatcheslav Kowalski, Andrei Afanasyev and Valery Kolomejzev had an honorable performance: it was quite difficult to make any predictions of the winner until the bitter end, the Cup could perfectly well get the Ukrainian team. But hunting is hunting, and besides knowing how to shoot and good weapon, pure luck can make the difference. Eventually, our representatives gained the third place in the team classification. Personal results are more impressive: Maxim Semenovyh gained in the Hunt class “D” (weapon up to 5 kg, caliber .222 Rem., 223 Rem., 5.6x39, .22-250 Rem.) with his SAKO .223 Rem. the record-breaking for the whole history of the tournaments 2440 points (total distance – up to 5 marmots), Dmitry Grimalyuk shooting from Prechtl GS04 took the first place in the “sniper class” (caliber only .308 Win, total weapon weight no more than 9 kg) with the result of 2676 point, the second place in this class – Valery Kolomejzev with the same Prechtl GS04 (total distance – 1689 meters), Wyatcheslav Kowalski in the class “Varmint light” (weapon up to 8 kg, caliber .222 Rem., .223 Rem., 5x639, .22-250 Rem.) won the second place with 2307 points, Andrei Afanasyev in “Varmint heavy” (caliber .243 Win., weapon weight assembled no more than 9 kg) has become the seventh with the result of 945 points. The pedestal for the gunshots was almost Ukrainian: Maxim Semenovyh hit the target from 625 meters, Slawa Kowalski – from 745 meters, Valery Kolomejzev – from 692 meters. A more detailed report on the tournament you will find in the next edition of the magazine “World of Passion: Weapons & Hunting”.
